Nerds Gotta Drink: Mabel Pines’ Spooky Brews

Fangirls, I just adore Gravity Falls. I think it’s one of the most rad shows out there, and I get so pumped that it’s a Disney show! A couple weeks ago I read Dipper & Mabel’s Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun, and one of the activities in it were two drinks, suggested by Mabel. Originally there was no alcohol in them, but I changed the recipes just a bit, so there could be some!

Dipper-Mabel

For the Drink of the Dead, you’ll need:
Ice
Lime Sherbet (I bought rainbow, because it includes lime, and is easier to find)
Lemon Lime Soda
Lime Juice
Blood of your enemies Red Berry Vodka

DrinkOfTheDead1

I put everything but the sherbet into my drink shaker (with the ratio 2:1:.5 for soda:vodka:lime juice), and shook it up. It’s good to only make this one recipe at a time, otherwise the soda will get all hyper and burst out of your shaker! Scoop yourself a dollop of the sherbet, then pour your drink over it. Leave the ice in your shaker, because you don’t really want ice and sherbet.

DrinkOfTheDead2

It looks so spooky, right? I love that it looks like something that you’d find in a swamp…or in a zombie’s hand! It’s a perfect green for spooky times, and it’s both sweet and tart; something for everyone! Of course, it is tasty without the alcohol too, so you can always skip it for the younger party-goers.

The next drink requires a bit more preparation and patience. The Ghoul’s Spittoon requires:
Can of Frozen Berry Juice
Water
Lemonade
Handful of goblin hair Limoncello

GhoulsSpitoon

First things first, in my house, we don’t buy lemonade. Instead, we make it, because it’s much tastier, and is incredibly easy. To make lemonade like ours, put a cup of sugar, a cup of lemon juice, and a bunch of water into a juice pitcher (do the water last, and fill your pitcher almost to the top), and mix it up!

After that, you’ll need to make the frozen berry juice (I used cran-raspberry!). If it’s been in your freezer, take it out to thaw a bit, before putting it into a pitcher. Once it’s thawed, follow the can’s instructions  to make it, then pour it into an ice cube tray! Be careful with this part; for some reason, I thought my hands were steady enough to not do this over the sink. I was wrong.

Pop your ice cube tray in the freezer, and wait.

GhoulsSpitoon2

I let mine sit for 3 days, and found that even after all that time, the ice cubes weren’t totally solid because they’re made with juice. So I popped a couple out anyways, and into my drink they went. I almost filled a small glass with lemonade, before adding the 2 shots of Caravella Limoncello and frozen juice cubes. It was wonderful.

GhoulsSpitoon3I found it to be incredibly light and summery (despite it being December already). It looked a bit spooky, too, how the cubes melted red down into the drink. It made me believe it really was a Ghoul’s Spittoon.

I had a lot of fun making and drinking these drinks. If you don’t drink alcohol, they’re wonderful without the booze; if you do drink alcohol, they’re great that way too. It’s win-win. That Mabel Pines really knows what she’s talking about. As always, drink responsibly, and don’t end up like this guy.

Me, being too pumped about this game.
